Stargell Foundation Advances Dialysis Care
The Willie Stargell Foundation has awarded a $50,000 grant to the New Hanover Regional Medical Center Foundation in support of continued dialysis care for those battling kidney disease.
The gift will support the purchase of dialysis equipment that can be used for patients in the Willie “Pops” Stargell Dialysis Unit at New Hanover Regional Medical Center (NHRMC), which is part of Novant Health.
“Kidney disease does not stop during a pandemic,” said Margaret Weller-Stargell. “We are incredibly grateful to our supporters for continuing to help the Willie Stargell Foundation fund these programs. People in our region fighting the disease need our help now more than ever.”
Willie Stargell was a Hall of Fame baseball player and homerun hitter for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He died in 2001 after a long battle with kidney disease.
