Making an impact in a year unlike any other
Letter from Jed Orman, Chairman, Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center Foundation
When 2020 began, it was on track to be a banner year for Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center Foundation. The buzz at our community events was overwhelmingly positive, and the excitement around our capital campaign for the Novant Health Wellness and Education Center was growing. I looked forward to successfully hosting all our usual events with increased attendance and membership.
Reality, however, presented us with an even greater opportunity to make an impact.
The novel coronavirus pandemic has affected us all in different ways — financially, physically, mentally. At Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center Foundation, our purpose is to raise awareness and funding for Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center to benefit team members and patients. And the turbulence of 2020 has given us the opportunity to unite and help those struggling in our community like never before.
This year, Novant Health Foundation created the Hope for Remarkable Team Aubergine Fund (formerly the Novant Health COVID-19 Disaster Relief Fund), which connects our team members with much-needed financial assistance, so they can continue their crucial work. The selflessness and determination those team members have shown has been an inspiration this year.
Our community support has been equally heart-warming. Although our events did not go on as scheduled, our donors and golf tournament sponsors rallied behind our mission all the same. Together, we raised $21,000 to support Novant Health programs and initiatives in the Thomasville area.
Looking ahead, so much remains unknown in 2021 — though this holiday season, we have new reasons to cherish each other and to appreciate the healthcare workers keeping us safe. Our foundation will continue to channel our energy toward supporting the mission of remarkable care through empowering patients and team members on the front lines.
Thank you for allowing me to serve as chairman of the board of Thomasville Medical Center Foundation these last two years. It has been an honor and privilege, and I wish you happy holidays and a happy new year!
With gratitude,
Jed Orman
