Paint the Town Pink this October in Rowan County
For the third year, Novant Health Rowan Medical Center Foundation is teaming up with local city and county offices, businesses, and community members in Rowan County to Paint the Town Pink with pink ribbons during the month of October for breast cancer awareness. The community is invited to support the initiative by purchasing a pink ribbon for $1.00 in honor of a loved one.
Paint the Town Pink is organized by the hospital foundation as a community-wide effort designed to make a difference in the lives of Rowan County women by raising awareness of the importance of mammograms.
“By participating in the “Paint the Town Pink” campaign, each town helps to raise awareness for the importance of early detection of breast cancer and encourages community involvement,” said Rick Parker, director of Rowan Medical Center Foundation. “Every dollar raised will go towards supporting breast health in our community.”
During the month of October, anyone who visits local businesses who support “Paint the Town Pink” can purchase a pink ribbon for one dollar that supports awareness and raises money to provide mammograms to local women in need. Ribbons will then be taped to store fronts. Pink ribbons can be purchased at participating stores in Downtown Salisbury, China Grove, and Granite Quarry.
Over the past two years, funds raised through this initiative have helped Novant Health Rowan Medical Center Foundation purchase the first 3D mammography scanner for the Breast Center on Julian Road. This year, all funds raised will go to the foundation’s Breast Health Fund which covers the cost of mammograms, diagnostic mammograms and ultrasounds for women who are uninsured or underinsured.
