Riding Against Cancer 2020
Third annual Riders Against Cancer breast cancer awareness poker run
Event history
Approximately 1 in every 8 women will develop invasive breast cancer in their lifetime. But the owners and patrons of The Lucky Turn Around, a neighborhood bar located in China Grove, are working to change that. The group Riders Against Cancer leads a year-round effort to raise money to provide mammograms to women regardless of their ability to afford one. Over the last three years, RAC has raised more than $50,000 and helped more than 100 women receive mammograms through a partnership with Novant Health Rowan Medical Center Foundation.
The group’s flagship event, an annual poker run known as Riding for Mammograms, attracts motorcycle riders and enthusiasts from all over Rowan and Mecklenburg County. Although this year’s event has been postponed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the group has continued to raise money through merchandise and sponsors.
Where the rubber meets the road
The Lucky Turn Around in China Grove, North Carolina, is a hot spot for motorcycle riders, family and friends. Patrons can grab an appetizer, play pool and throw darts. And the pink lemonade is extra special: Buy a glass, and the proceeds go toward providing lifesaving mammograms to women in need.
T-shirt sponsorship
The Riders Against Cancer (RAC) are partnering with Novant Health Rowan Medical Center Foundation again this year in raising funds to provide free screening and diagnostic mammograms for the uninsured and underinsured in our community. In 2018, a group of 25 women founded a committee for the Lucky Turn Around’s inaugural Breast Cancer Awareness Poker Run, “Riding for Mammograms.”
We surpassed our 2019 goal of $20,000 and raised $36,000! Our goal this year is to raise $23,000. You can help us save lives by supporting this much needed community outreach. Please consider becoming a t-shirt sponsor or make a donation to help us in our fight against breast cancer. These funds are tax deductible and a great advertising opportunity for your company!
On behalf of the RAC Committee and Novant Health, we would like to thank you for your participation in helping us to save lives by providing free screening and diagnostic mammograms.
Thank You,
Stacey Thomas
