At Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center, our goal is to provide children with expert care so they can live a healthy and active lifestyle. That’s why we host the annual Young Lungs Without Limits Summer Day Camp for children age 7 to 12. The camp is funded by the foundation, making the camp free of charge to all campers.
Held at Camp Keyauwee in Sophia, North Carolina, the camp provides an environment for children to participate in outdoor activities and to grow physically and mentally while increasing their ability to manage asthma.
Parents find piece of mind knowing trained respiratory therapists with Thomasville Medical Center’s respiratory department serve as counselors for the daylong event.
Jessica Gardner, Registered Respiratory Therapist, says, “The American Lung Association reports that 6.2 million children under age 18 suffer from asthma. In addition, asthma accounted for an estimated 14 million lost school days in children and is the third leading cause of hospitalization among children under age 15. Our goal is to provide the children a camp that will be a time of recreation and education in hopes of reducing lost school days or hospital admissions for the attendees by helping them better manage their asthma.”
Stay tuned for next year’s camp dates. If you are interested in sponsoring a child to attend, please donate today. Your donation will make a difference in a child’s life.
