Our purpose is to raise awareness and funding to benefit our patients and support our team members at New Hanover Regional Medical Center (NHRMC). 

Our top priority fundraising initiative Currents of Care supports oncology patients at Novant Health Zimmer Cancer Institute by providing access to the medical, emotional, and financial assistance they may need. Other priority fundraising initiatives include The Pink Ribbon Project and supporting patients and their families through our Healthy Community Fund.

The two North Carolina not-for-profit health systems have come together after more than a year of public evaluation of how NHRMC could best meet the needs of the growing region. “We are excited to expand the Novant Health family to include New Hanover Regional Medical Center,” said Carl S. Sheila and Dan Saklad Help the Next Generation of Nurses

Sheila Saklad’s life was shaped by a passion for nursing — a passion that continues to touch the lives of others. Sheila’s grandmother was a nurse. Sheila’s mother was a nurse. So it came as little surprise when Sheila chose nursing as her career path. She and her husband, Dan, championed for nurses and healthcare over the course of their 54-year marriage. When Sheila passed away in August 2020 from complications of multiple myeloma, Dan knew what his wife would have wanted.
