Novant Health Opens Orthopedic Clinic in Beaufort with Esteemed Surgeons, Edward Blocker and Kevin Jones

Novant Health is proud to announce the addition of two highly respected orthopedic surgeons, Dr. Edward Blocker and Dr. Kevin Jones, to its expanding network of clinicians in the Lowcountry. Both physicians, who have been practicing in Beaufort for many years, will be primarily based out of the new Novant Health Orthopedic & Sports Medicine – Beaufort clinic at 97 Sea Island Parkway.

This expansion is part of Novant Health’s ongoing effort to improve access to high-quality specialty care in the region. Blocker and Jones bring decades of combined experience, along with a shared commitment to providing world-class care for patients with musculoskeletal conditions. To further enhance patient outcomes, Novant Health is introducing a new Mako robotic system, which will assist both surgeons in performing precise and minimally invasive joint replacement surgeries at Coastal Carolina Hospital.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Blocker and Dr. Jones to the Novant Health family,” said Ryan Lee, president of Coastal Carolina Hospital. “Their expertise, dedication to patient-centered care, and commitment to advancing orthopedic treatments align perfectly with our mission. This expansion is just the beginning of our ongoing investment in enhancing specialty services across the region.”

Jones, who specializes in treating hip and knee arthritis, is enthusiastic about the potential of robotic-assisted surgery. “I am excited to be part of such a comprehensive orthopedic team and will be using the Mako robot for virtually all of my total hip and knee replacements,” Jones said. “The precision and scientific approach of robotic-assisted surgery not only ensures better outcomes but also promotes faster recovery for patients.”

Jones added, “It’s incredibly rewarding to help patients return to their active lifestyles, particularly our vibrant retired community here in Beaufort.”

Blocker, known for his expertise in lower extremity arthritis and joint replacement surgery, also expressed excitement about joining Novant Health. “Novant Health’s strong focus on the patient resonates with me,” Blocker said. “The organization places patients at the center of everything we do, which is exactly what I value in my practice. While I specialize in arthritis treatment, I also enjoy treating a variety of hand conditions, including trigger finger and carpal tunnel. Our community here is full of retirees who want to continue living active lives, and I find it incredibly fulfilling to help them reach their mobility and comfort goals.”

Sarah Blau, PA-C, Paul Schaefer, PA-C, and William Schreffler, NP, bring additional expertise as advanced practice providers who joined Jones and Blocker at the new clinic. A third orthopedic surgeon and an additional physician assistant will join the clinic this spring.

Novant Health’s new Beaufort clinic and the Mako robotic system represent significant investments in the region’s orthopedic care infrastructure. These additions reflect an ongoing commitment to bring advanced, affordable healthcare closer to home for the Beaufort community. Blocker and Jones bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Novant Health team, and their patient-centered approach will help deliver exceptional orthopedic care for years to come.
