Nutritional Supplement Program launched to support cancer patients
More than $2,000 has been contributed to the Cancer Patients Fund for a Nutritional Supplement Program that has helped 100 patients at Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center get the vital supplements they need to continue ongoing cancer treatments.
One patient the Nutritional Supplement Program served has stage IV lung cancer. She only weighed 76 pounds. She was eating but was unable to gain weight; in fact, she was slowly losing weight. Her oncologist did not want to give her chemotherapy until she reached a healthier weight. By enrolling in the program last year, she was able to gain 3 pounds and start her much needed chemotherapy treatment. She would continue treatment as long as she maintained her weight.
After nine months on the program, she was scheduled to be transitioned out of the program. Her oncologist was notified she would be transitioning out of the program. The oncology practice was concerned for the patient and asked if there was any way possible she could continue to receive her nutritional supplements. The patient was subsequently re-enrolled for another six months.
Programs, like the Nutritional Supplement Program, help Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center Foundation strive towards our mission to improve the health of our community, one person at a time.
For less than $11.00 per month, we are able to help this patient continue her much needed chemotherapy and continue her journey to battle cancer. Your donation today can help many of our oncology patients get the supplements they need to give them the strength to continue treatments and beat cancer.
