Novant Health Rowan Medical Center Foundation partnered with Rowan-Salisbury School System to host King of the Court, a junior and senior boys volleyball fundraiser benefiting the Rowan Medical Center Breast Center.
In October 2016 the tournament-style competition was held at West Rowan, South Rowan, East Rowan and Salisbury High Schools, ending in a countywide championship at East Rowan High School. Rockwell Elementary School also participated with a Pink Out day in honor of school employee Dawn Hathcock, who was undergoing treatment for breast cancer.
On February 27, 2017, Rowan County King of the Courts presented a check for more than $5,000 to go towards purchasing a 3-D mammography unit for the new Rowan Medical Center mobile coach.
3-D mammography is the newest development in breast scan technology. The three-dimensional image allows for better viewing of invasive tumors and a decrease in false alarms. The new mobile coach will allow for women to get scanned quickly in places where they work, live and attend activities, with the goal of increasing the number of women who get regular breast checks.
“We are thrilled to get the schools involved in raising awareness of breast cancer and helping to raise money for the Breast Center,” says Marian Walters, Novant Health Rowan Medical Center Foundation development officer. “It’s a great way for the community to come together to fight breast cancer.”
