Foundation offers grants to help improve our communities

Our health system believes in our role as a good corporate citizen, working with community agencies and organizations to make our communities better places to live and work.

For many years, our foundation has awarded grants through a competitive process to assist nonprofit organizations and team members who want to present a program or service to impact the health of our residents in North Virginia.

All applications are reviewed by the Community Needs Committee, a subcommittee of the Novant Health Prince William Medical Center Foundation board of trustees. Recommendations from this committee are approved by the foundation board of trustees. The foundation represents all of our Novant Health UVA Health System affiliates in Virginia (Novant Health UVA Health System Prince William Medical Center, Novant Health UVA Health System Haymarket Medical Center, Novant Health UVA Health System Culpeper Medical Center, Novant Health UVA Health System medical group and Novant Health UVA Health System Caton Merchant House).

The foundation is particularly interested in impactful programs and services that address Novant Health UVA Health System’s four top significant health priorities identified through our 2016 Community Health Needs Assessment: diabetes, obesity, chronic diseases, including cancer, heart disease and stroke, and mental health, including substance abuse.

Past internal grant awards that benefited our community include support for the purchase of The Breast Cancer Treatment Handbook for distribution to newly diagnosed breast cancer patients; a program called “Improving Sleep Disturbances and Quality of Life for Cancer Patients Through Yoga Therapy”; and the purchase of an osteoporosis screening portable bone densitometer.

Grant awards range from $1,000 up to $20,000.

Request a Grant Application

The following guidelines will be used to determine grant awards.

  • Impact: Does the program/project impact the health of our community? How will the impact be measured?
  • Sustainable funding: Is the proposed program/project sustainable? Is funding in place to ensure continuity beyond foundation grant award?
  • Value: Does the program/project provide value to both organizations (foundation/grantee) and the intended audience?
  • Geographic reach: Does the program/project reach a desired target audience, such as vulnerable populations, community stakeholders, other health professionals and community leaders?

Due to fund availability, requests may be denied even if they fit criteria. This process is in place to ensure that all applications are evaluated equally and fulfill the foundation’s mission, vision, values and strategic plan.

To be considered for a grant, applicants must complete an e-application and submit it by email. Contact Kelly Persons, director the foundation, via e-mail klpersons@novanthealth.org or call 703-369-8791 to receive the application.
