Annual My Hero Gala
This annual black-tie event hosted by the Charlotte Hornets Foundation and Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center Foundation raises funds for our Community Care Cruiser and other great causes. More details are coming soon, but mark your calendars for October 21, 2017!
At the 2016 Annual My Hero Gala, Hornets Sports & Entertainment President & Chief Operating Officer Fred Whitfield, along with Novant Health Executive Vice President & Chief Consumer Officer Jesse Cureton, hosted more than 600 guests at Time Warner Cable Arena on Saturday, October 22, 2016, for the ninth annual My Hero Gala. The black tie fundraiser, which supports the Novant Health Community Care Cruiser and the Charlotte Hornets Foundation, featured the entire Hornets team and coaching staff in their finest attire and basketball shoes and Emmy Award-winning FOX Sports 1 sportscaster Mike Hill acting as the evening’s host. In addition to the main program, the red-carpet event also featured a cocktail reception, dinner, a variety of entertainment, and opportunities for guests to participate in a silent auction, raffle and sneaker contest.
Along with raising funds for the Novant Health Community Care Cruiser and the Charlotte Hornets Foundation, the My Hero Gala also serves as an awards celebration, recognizing individuals for their contributions to the Charlotte community. The 2016 honorees were community advocate Stick Williams, former Duke Energy Corporation Vice President of Corporate Community Affairs and Duke Energy Foundation President (Community Hero); Novant Health Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer Thomas N. Zweng, MD, FACS, (Healthcare Hero); Charlotte Hornets forward/center Cody Zeller (Sports Hero); and Men’s Shelter of Charlotte Executive Director Liz Clasen-Kelly (Rising Star Award).
