Susan G. Komen

Established in 1982 as a promise to a dying sister, Susan G. Komen has grown into the world’s largest nonprofit source of funding in the fight against breast cancer. Charlotte, Northwest North Carolina, Triangle to the Coast and National Capital Komen affiliates collaborate with local Novant Health breast screening programs in North Carolina and Virginia to provide mammography screenings, diagnostic services and breast health education to underserved individuals.

Susan G. Komen affiliates have awarded more than $3.4 million in grants to Novant Health regional breast health/breast screening programs for the uninsured since 1999. These local programs collaborate with community clinics, homeless shelters, houses of worship and civic groups to identify individuals most in need of screening and education services.  Provided with no out-of-pocket costs, these services help eliminate some of the typical barriers to healthcare, such as access, cost and transportation. This approach enables more individuals to receive needed screening services as part of wellness and prevention, leading to earlier breast cancer diagnoses.

Novant Health leadership and staff are honored to collaborate with Susan G. Komen to improve the lives of underserved individuals in our communities and offer convenient screening locations across North Carolina and Virginia.
